A team of the Cuttack UPD of the Commissionerate police on Monday seized over 700 kg of ganja in two separate cases and arrested four notorious drug peddlers from the outskirts of Cuttack city by intercepting two vehicles.
Police said that a team of the Jagatpur police station got information regarding the transportation of ganja. Subsequently, the team intercepted a four-wheeler near the Indian Oil petrol pump at Jagatpur.
The team was successful in nabbing two ganja traders, Panchanan Bisoi and Amit Mahakud and recovered 360 kg of the contraband and cash over Rs 1 lakh, The two are habitual offenders and are involved in similar cases.
During the interrogation of the accused, the police got information and intercepted a car that was on its way to Dhenkanal and arrested two more peddlers, Ganeswar Das and Damo Kanhar. Around 351 kg of anja and Rs 48,000 cash were recovered from their possession.
In the preliminary probe, it was ascertained that Cuttack is being used as a transit point for narcotics trade..
