Host of teachers of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU ) on Wednesday held demonstration outside university campus to protest cut in state government notified holidays by Governor's secretariate. They also wore black badges while demonstrations.
They shouted slogans of teachers' unity and sodality and demanded withdrawal of the order issued by the Governor's secretariat in this regard.
Talking to media outside the university building association general secretary Himanshu Shekher Choudhary said that whosoever has suggested for this cut is unaware of the functioning of universities in Jharkhand.
Himanshu said we are not opposed to cuts but what about the numbers of Earned and Casual leaves that as vocational staff we don't get compared to non vocational staff. There must be mention of these too in order to cut. As vocational staff as per notification of the state government we get only 12 earn leave against 33 in a calendar year compared to non vocational staff.. Similarly, we have just eight casual leaves compared to16 of theirs.
Terming it a double standard, Himanshu said if the matter is not hammered out the teachers would hold a day long pendown strike and if no action were taken, would consider for a hars step in protest for withdrawal of the order.
In reply to a question over university's demand of holding examination of second generic paper for undergraduate students who have passed out from 2015 till 2022,Himanshu admitted , it was a mistake at some level by universities, but unfortunately it's students that now are at receiving end..
