BeMC Mayor urged to execute polythene ban

Friday, 17 March 2023 | PNS | BRAHMAPUR

A delegation led by environmentalist and chairman of Aryabhatta Foundation Sudhir Rout met BeMC Mayor Sanghamitra Dalai in her office on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum requesting to implement the ban on polythene and single-use plastic and to stop burning the garbage, especially dry leaves, inside the MKCG campus since the dry leaves make good composts which can be sold in the market.

The delegation also sought issuing of necessary directives to the sanitation staffs to stop sweeping the garbage off into the drains and to implement the NGT order to prevent people from dumping all sundry articles, mostly used in Pujas, in the ponds and other water bodies to avoid pollution.

The delegation also requested the Mayor to set aside a pond or two to facilitate dumping of various Puja wastes which contribute major components to water pollutants.

The Mayor reportedly assured the delegation to initiate necessary action to implement the suggestions.
