BARI CONG LEADER UMESH JENA JOINS BJP 

Bhubaneswar:  Jajpur district’s Bari Congress leader and former PCC secretary Umesh Jena joined the BJP along with his associates  at the BJP’s State office here in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and BJP State president Samir Mohanty on Friday.

 

VINIT AGRAWAL JOINS AS JAJPUR SP 

Jajpur: Vinit Agrawal joined as the Superintendent of Police in Jajpur district on Friday. He emphasised the need for a more friendly relationship between the police and the public and encouraged citizens to come forward to help the police curb crimes. He said, “Faster and time-bound delivery of police-related services to the needy, especially the downtrodden, women and ST/SC communities, will constitute the police’s roadmap,”

 

HOCKEY WC: DEFENDING CHAMPIONS BELGIUM ARRIVE

Bhubaneswar: As the defending Champions Belgium arrived in Odisha for the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela on Friday, there was a definite buzz at the Biju Patnaik International Airport with a large gathering of fans to welcome some of the biggest stars in world hockey. Belgium are placed in Pool B along with Germany, Japan and Korea and will begin their campaign on January 14 against Korea in Bhubaneswar.

 

SPIRITUAL POETRY COLLECTION ‘NIRMALYA KANIKA’ RELEASED 

Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of the Srimad Bhagabata Gita Prabachan organised by the Srimad Bhagabat Parayana Committee at Niladrivihar Durgapuja Mandap here, spiritual poetry collection “Nirmalya Kanika” written by Batakrushna Panda was released. Spiritual guru Prof Santosh Kumar Sahoo was chief guest. Other guests included Corporator of Ward-14 Monalisha Sahoo, lawyer Manhmohan Pattnaik, Nilarivihar Youth and Cultural Association president and publisher of the book Dr Prakash Chandra Panigrahi. Intellectuals of the locality praised the initiative of the writer.   

 

ASST RI HELD TAKING BRIBE IN NABARANGPUR

Cuttack: The Vigilance police on Friday caught Jagdish Behera, Assistant Revenue Inspector (ARI), in-charge RI of Sanamasigaon RI Circle under Nabarangpur tehsil in Nabarangpur district, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000. Behera had demanded the bribe from a person for issuance of legal heir certificate in her favour. Following the trap, simultaneous searches were launched on the residential Government quarter of Behera at Nabarangpur and his office chamber at Sanamasigaon. Later, he was arrested and forwarded to court.

 

DRKURE SMART CLINIC OPENS 2ND OUTLET IN BBSR 

Bhubaneswar: The DrKure Smart Clinic opened its second clinic at Samanta Vihar near Nalco Square here on Wednesday. The clinic was inaugurated by Congress MLA Suresh Kumar Routray. The clinic aims to provide healthcare services to underprivileged and needy people by using smart solutions. “We are committed to provide better healthcare at lower cost,” said DrKure Smart Clinic director Dr Archana Mallick. The DrKure Smart Clinic has its first unit on Cuttack Road here.

 

LOUIS BRAILLE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED 

Bhubaneswar: For the precious invention of the Brail Script by Louis Braille for visually-impaired people, his birth day was observed on January 4 as World Brail Day. Students of the Kandalei Primary School celebrated the day along with Trilochan Beura, a coach of a blind football team. Bapina Nayak, captain of the blind football team Odisha was chief guest.

 

BIRD CENSUS IN HIRAKUD RESERVOIR FROM JAN 8

Sambalpur: The annual census of migratory birds will commence at the Hirakud Dam reservoir from January 8. Total 30 teams of Hirakud Wildlife Division (Nodal) along with Sambalpur, Bargarh and Jharsuguda Divisions will carry out the drive in 15 sectors. The teams will also include fishermen who have knowledge about nesting of the birds.

 

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TO REBUILD 969 WOMEN’S LIVES

Bhubaneswar: Non-profit housing organisation Habitat for Humanity India has partnered with the Standard Chartered Bank to provide 969 women with up-skilling, alternative livelihood opportunities and assistance in establishing micro-enterprises to generate additional income. The project is known as Empowering Women and Improving Life through Livelihood Interventions. These women are from the States of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha.
