Punjab Power Engineers Demand PSPCL-PSTCL Merger

Chandigarh:  Seeking more efficiency and coordination, the Punjab Power engineers have demanded to merge the state’s two power utilities — Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and the Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL).  “There is an urgent need for the merger of the PSPCL and the PSTCL. The lack of coordination is not only causing issues between the two corporations but also delaying industrial connections,” said Punjab State Electricity Board Engineers’ Association general secretary Ajay Pal Singh Atwal. Atwal said that because of non-timely planning and upgradation of 220KV and 66KV transmission systems, many industrial connections remain pending in the state’s industrial hubs. Besides causing a loss of revenue to the corporations, this also undermines the state’s efforts to improve its ease of doing business rankings, he said.
