Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely on Saturday offered prayers at the Mata Sundari Gurudwara for the victory of the Indian team against Australia in the final of the 2023 World Cup at Ahmedabad on Sunday, as India will be vying for the World Cup title after a 12-year gap.
Lovely said that though the Indian team members hail from all parts of the country, the people of Delhi are proud of the fact that two key players in the team belong to Delhi--star batsman Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. He said that Delhiites have reposed great faith on Kohli and Shreyas to come up with the same kind of batsmanship they had exhibited against New Zealand in the semi-final, to play star roles in defeating Australia in the final too.
He said that the Indian team were well-balanced and fully charged up to maintain their unbeaten record of 10 consecutive wins in the championship, and lift the Cup, to bring laurels to the country. He said that the Indian team were confident of beating Australia as they had defeated the Aussies in the league round of the championship, which will provide a never-before-kind of fireworks to the expected full house at the behemoth Ahmedabad stadium.
