Dalit woman raped in Bareilly

Saturday, 09 September 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

In a shocking incident, a Dalit woman was raped and force-fed beef after being drugged by two accused belonging to the minority community in Bareilly district, police said on Friday.

A Muslim woman, who was the survivor’s friend, was also involved in the crime.

The woman had called the survivor to a hotel where the latter was gang-raped, police added.

The accused, identified as Shoaib, a BPharma student, and Nazim, who works as a barber, also filmed the act and blackmailed the survivor, demanding Rs 5 lakh. They later sent the video to the survivor’s fiancé and tried to flee to Kashmir where Nazim’s shop is located.

Distressed by the blackmail, the survivor filed a complaint with the police.

The survivor had reportedly borrowed some money from her Muslim friend and wanted to return it. On September 2, she was called to a cafe by the accused woman where the other two men were also present. She was then tricked the survivor into going to a hotel where she was gang-raped.

“Based on the victim’s complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribe Act. It is also a case of extortion. All the accused have been arrested,” a senior police official said.

Further legal proceedings would be taken against all the accused, including the woman involved in the crime, he added.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl for 20 days after taking her to Delhi, police said on Friday.

On August 17, accused Kundan Kumar Paswan, a resident of Majhauli village of Ballia district, kidnapped a 13-year-old girl from a village in Bansdih Road police station area.

The minor, after being rescued on Thursday, informed police that Paswan took her to Delhi and raped her for 20 days, Station House Officer Raj Kapoor Singh said.

After the girl’s disappearance, her mother filed a complaint and a case under sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her for marriage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against Kundan.

Following the victim’s statement, Section 376 (3) (rape on a woman under sixteen years of age) of the IPC and sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act were added to the FIR, the SHO said.

Kundan was arrested from Shankarpur trisection on Friday, he said.

ELECTROCUTED

Meanwhile, in a tragic incident, two young farmers in Dibai village of Bulandshahr district died after coming in contact with a high-tension wire.

The families of the victims blamed the electricity department for negligence.

Police said cousins Sumit (20) and Krishna (22) died on Thursday when they had gone to their farm to collect fodder.

According to Sumit’s father Jitendra Singh, a snapped high tension live wire was lying in the field.

“One of the two youths came in contact with the wire and was electrocuted. The other died while trying to save him. It was all due to the negligence of the electricity department,” Jitendra Singh alleged.

SHO of Dibai, Chhotey Singh, said, “Two young men were taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. Their bodies were handed over to families. Prima facie, it appears they died of electrocution. There was an electric pole above them, but it is not clear what actually happened.

The sub-divisional magistrate of Dibai also visited the spot.

“We will register an FIR once we receive a complaint,” police said.

The victims belonged to a farming family. Sumit was pursuing a technical course at a private polytechnic.
