Din in C’garh Assembly over ‘police brutality’

Friday, 17 March 2023 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

The Chhattisgarh Assembly on Thursday witnessed noisy scenes over alleged police brutality on BJP leaders and workers during their protest against the alleged non-implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

BJP legislators moved an adjournment motion seeking a discussion on the police action on protesting party workers, who assembled in a bid to gherao the House.

The BJP accuses the state government of not providing houses to the poor under the Central scheme. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has denied the charge.

BJP leaders including Narayan Chandel, Brijmohan Agrawal, Ajay Chandrakar and Shivratan Sharma accused the government of trying to suppress a democratic protest.

On Wednesday, tear gas was fired and water canon was used to disperse BJP activists, they said.

The opposition members created a din in the House when the Chair dismissed their plea to allow a discussion into the matter.

Amid the ruckus, the Chair adjourned the House for five minutes.
