A gun battle occurred on Tuesday between security forces and Naxalites in Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.
The fighting took place in the jungles of Isulnar village when the security forces were on a search operation, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Governa said.
A joint squad of the security forces was dispatched following inputs about the presence of 40-50 armed Maoists along with senior Maoist guerrillas.
The Maoists opened fire when the security forces were cordoning off the forest. The Maoists escaped after they found security personnel zeroing in on them, the officer said. The police seized a bomb, cordex wire, fuse wire, four detonators, eight gelatins, Naxalite uniform and daily use items from the spot, he said, adding two to three Maoists may have been injured.
