Saturday, 18 March 2023 | PNS | Jamshedpur

After absconding for four and half months, former Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC) president Gurmukh Singh Mujhe was arrested from Mercy Hospital in Baridih where he was undergoing treatment by giving a fake identity. The police arrested Mukhe in connection with rape and unnatural sex with a woman in Kadma.

The accused was arrested last night from Baridih Mercy Hospital under Sidhgora police station. At that time, he had reached the hospital for treatment with a changed name. Only then the police, who were looking for him, got a tip off and raided and arrested him. After absconding, the police had also pasted an advertisement at Mukhe's residence. Meanwhile, as soon as the news of Mukhe's arrest spread, there was a stir in the Sikh community. Mukhe's opponents also became active and started verifying the information.

The matter dates backs to 5 November 2022, a woman resident of Kadma had accused CGPC chief of rape. The woman had told the police that she is the mother of two children and her husband lives abroad. The woman had gone to the CGPC office in the past to resolve the family dispute. The woman met Mukhe, after which the accused promised settlement. On November 3, at 1:30 pm, Mukhe came to her Kadma residence, where while molesting her, raped her at gunpoint. The younger son was at home at the time of the incident. The woman also has the complete video of the incident which she presented to the police.

Mukhe, who had a dubious background was wanted in connection with a rape case, registered with the Kadma police station in November. The former CGPC president had allegedly raped the woman at gun point at her house in Kadma. The rape was committed in front of the victim’s children. The incident took place when the victim’s husband was away from the country.

The victim while lodging the FIR also produced a video-clipping of the heinous crime, leading the police to register a case against the culprit. Ever since the accused was absconding.

Kadma police station OC Ashok Kumar Ram confirmed the arrest of Mukhe. “ We were looking for the rape accused Gurmukh Singh Mukhe. Last night he was undergoing treatment at a Baridih-based hospital with a changed name. He was immediately arrested,” said Ram.
