Tuesday, 28 November 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, on the eve of winter session of Vidhan Sabha commencing here from Tuesday, convened a meeting of leaders of all political parties represented in the assembly. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath also attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Mahana said, “There is a perception in the country that meaningful debates take place in UP assembly sessions, work done by the state government is projected very well, opposition puts forward their opinions very well. I hope this will continue in the upcoming session and there will be a debate in the House on important issues.”

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, welcoming the leaders of the political parties, said the winter session would be the third session of this year. “I am confident that the winter session would be conducted as per the established parliamentary conventions and dignity. State assembly is a forum for meaningful debates on the issues concerning the people and all members have contributed in the conduct of the proceedings of the House in a meaningful and positive manner, which has received domestic and global acclaim,” the chief minister said.

He added, “UP on the count of population is the biggest state of the country and is developing at a fast pace.”

The chief minister appreciated the role of the leaders of opposition parties, saying development of the state was now a big issue for the opposition parties.

“It is nothing short of a miracle to see the mention of Uttar Pradesh in other state assemblies,” the chief minister said.

Yogi Adityanath said the assembly, by conducting its proceedings as per parliamentary conventions, could send a strong message to the common people of the state.

Yogi Adityanath also directed the principal secretary (home) to ensure proper security arrangements at the residence of the legislators.

Leaders of all parties praised the government for extending financial medical assistance to common people of the state on their recommendation.

The chief minister said there should be discrimination and no party politics in giving medical assistance to the people as all were citizens of Uttar Pradesh.

Yogi Adityanath on the occasion also formally released the revised Rules of Business for the Conduct of the Proceedings of the Vidhan Sabha, 2023.

Speaker Satish Mahana sought the cooperation of the members of all political parties for the meaningful conduct of the proceedings of the assembly. He urged the members to ensure their presence in the House during the session, saying mere marking the attendance served no purpose.

Leaders of all political parties assured the speaker of extending their cooperation for the smooth conduct of the proceedings of the assembly.

The speaker also held separate meetings with the officials of UP Police and Home Department for the review of the security arrangements.

Addressing the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna also sought the cooperation of the leaders of the opposition parties. He said that meaningful debates as per parliamentary convention was the sole solution to all problems and grievances of the people.
