In a shocking incident, a man allegedly administered poison to his 20-day-old infant daughter on Monday as he was deeply unhappy with the girl child. The man is identified as Chandan Mahana of Mallikashpur in Baleswar district.
Chandan had married Tanmayi last year. He did not want the girl child. Tanmayi had gone to her parental house at Singhiri village under the Nilgiri police station after delivery and Chandan used to visit her there.
On Monday when she went to take bath, Chandan allegedly administered poison to the infant with the help of a syringe. However, Tanmayi rushed back after hearing the baby’s screams and found Chandan sitting beside the child.
Tanmayi, suspecting something abnormal, asked Chandan about the reason behind the baby’s cry. Although initially he refused to say anything, later he confessed to having administered poison to the child as she was a girl.
Soon, the infant was rushed to the Baleswar District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Currently, the child is undergoing treatment at the ICU. After getting a complaint, police detained Chandan for interrogation.
