In anticipation of the Christmas festivities, members of Punjab Minorities Commission on Friday held a crucial meeting with the state Director General of Police (DGP), Law and Order, Arpit Shukla to discuss and strategize security measures for churches and associated Shobha Yatras during the upcoming Christmas celebrations.
Punjab Minorities Commission member Dr Subhash Thoba, emphasizing the universal significance of Christmas, underscored the need for heightened security across churches in the State. He expressed concerns over the safety of the Christian community, citing previous criminal incidents with malicious intent. The meeting aimed to address these security concerns and ensure a safe environment for Christmas celebrations.
He also drew attention to the unfortunate incident in Amritsar that had negatively impacted the sentiments of the Christian community. He stressed the importance of proactive security measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the festive season.
DGP Arpit Shukla, responding to the concerns raised by Dr Thoba, assured a proactive approach in ensuring the security of churches during Christmas. He pledged to address pending cases related to the Christian community promptly, demonstrating the commitment of the police department to safeguarding the interests and safety of minority communities.
The meeting was attended by key figures, including Professor Emmanuel Nahar, John Kotli, Baldev Randhawa, and others. The collaborative effort between the Punjab Minorities Commission and the police department aims to create a secure environment for Christmas celebrations, allowing the Christian community to observe the festival without apprehensions.
