Modern Passport Seva Kendra to be functional soon in Ranchi

In a move to meet the increasing demand for Passports and to provide better service to the citizens, a new and modern Passport Seva Kendra will become functional in Mimech IT Park, Namkum Industrial Area in place of the existing Passport Seva Kendra in Ranchi within a few months. The new service center will have the capacity to accept passport applications from at least 700 applicants in a day.

Addressing a press meet Regional Passport Officer, Manita Kumari gave the information and she said that many steps are being taken by the Regional Passport Office, Ranchi and the Ministry of External Affairs in the interest of the people of Jharkhand. She said that the Ministry of External Affairs has approved the construction of a new building of the Regional Passport Office in Nagdi, Ranchi. Apart from the Regional Passport Office, other people-centric departments of the Ministry of External Affairs will also be functional in this building and soon all the passport offices of Jharkhand will be converted from offline to online, she added.

Kumari also informed that the post office based Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in Gumla and Giridih is being converted from offline to online mode. “With this, Ranchi Passport Office will be able to dispose of the applications received in these centers in real time. Similarly, for the convenience of Godda residents, Post Office Passport Seva Kendra is being established in the main post office at Godda. After its establishment, this will be the 16th passport application center in Jharkhand. It will soon be inaugurated by Godda MP, Nishikant Dubey. At the same time, Passport Seva Kendras located at Regional Passport Office, Jamshedpur, Bokaro and Chaibasa Post Office are being made capable of accepting more passport applications than before. The Ministry of External Affairs is continuously working to improve its services in Jharkhand,” she added.

On the occasion the Passport Officer said that two proofs have to be given for applying for a passport. “One is the date of birth and the other is Aadhaar and bank passbook. PAN card or bank passbook can be inserted in it. Along with this, address proof has to be given. Government employees can be given joining letters issued by the Government. If you need a passport urgently and the police verification is done in one to two days, then you can get the passport quickly. To get a passport for the next 10 years, one has to pay Rs 1500. If you want it urgently then you have to pay Rs 2000 extra. It takes about 15 days,” she added.
