Modi should give an account of his 9-year term: Arya

Tuesday, 30 May 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The leader of opposition (LoP) in the State Assembly, Yashpal Arya has said that instead of questioning the opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should give an account of his works during the last nine years of his tenure. He said that BJP came to power nine years ago making tall promises but now there is no talk of these promises. Arya said that the promises made to the farmers while taking back the draconian farm laws have not been implemented yet and the income of farmers has reduced instead of getting doubled as promised by the PM. He added that the debt burden in the country is increasing and is now more than $ 613 million. He said that the international price of crude oil was more than $ 120 per barrel during the UPA rule but even then the prices of diesel and petrol were kept in check. He said that now the crude price is around $ 75 per barrel but the price of petrol is more than Rs 100 per litre and diesel is Rs 95 per litre. The LoP said that the price of a cooking gas cylinder was Rs 410 during Congress rule which now costs more than Rs 1,100. He claimed that in the last five years, 4.13 crore beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme have not refilled their gas cylinder.

Launching an attack on the Modi government, Arya said that the demonetisation decision and GST enforcement damaged the economy severely.  He said that PM Modi had promised that two crore jobs would be provided every year but the promise has remained unfulfilled. Taking a dig at the government he said that instead of creating new employment, the government has succeeded in reducing the existing ones. Arya added that the government has put the savings of the general public in LIC and SBI into peril and the corruption is at its peak in the BJP ruled States. The Modi government has given a clean chit to China even as the hostile neighbour continues to occupy Indian territory, he said. He claimed that the atrocities on women, Dalits, ST, OBC and minorities are increasing but the PM is maintaining a silence. The BJP government is attacking the constitutional bodies and is engaging in vendetta politics. He said that PM Modi had given the slogan of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao but the manner in which the women wrestlers were manhandled in Delhi shows the true face of the government.
