New service of CKRT started in Nephrology department

In the series of adding new services to the AIIMS, Bhopal led by Executive Director Prof (Dr) Ajai Singh, a new form of kidney replacement therapy "Continuous Kidney Replacement Therapy" (CKRT) is added to the Department of Nephrology today.

Continuous Kidney Replacement Therapy (CKRT) is a special form of dialysis which is useful for critical patients with acute kidney injury. Dr Mahendra Atlani, Nephrologist, AIIMS, Bhopal informed that it helps in supporting kidney functions of patients who have low blood pressure, and who cannot tolerate the normal form of dialysis.

It also helps patients having brain injuries and bleeding problems in addition to kidney problems simultaneously.

This therapy is started in a patient who had simultaneously the septic shock, respiratory failure and Kidney failure and he has started on Continuous Veno-Venous Hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) with regional citrate anticoagulation. Patient is doing well and improving.
