Ranchi Police have arrested the accused of editing the photos of girls to make objectionable photos. A youth named Vivek Kumar has been arrested from Muzaffarpur district in Bihar.
Mobile phones have also been recovered from Kumar, in which many photos of girls and screenshots of fake IDs of Instagram have been found. Addressing a press meet on Saturday Ranchi City Superintendent of Police (SP), Rajkumar Mehta gave this information.
Mehta said that a case was registered under POCSO Act and IT Act in Lalpur police station of the State Capital for harassing by making objectionable photos by editing them. In which some girls of an educational institution were being harassed by sending their edited and objectionable photos on Instagram.
Taking action in this case, the police team arrested a youth named Vivek Kumar from Muzaffarpur of Bihar. Vivek Kumar used to obtain photos of a girl by posing as her friend on Facebook and carried out this incident.
The City SP said that the arrested Kumar is a vicious criminal. “He first created a profile on social media describing him as rich. On the basis of that profile, he befriended a girl from Ranchi and then trapped her and obtained her objectionable picture after this Kumar started blackmailing the girl. He used to ask this girl for nude photos of her friends and then add them to the nude video through deepfake photos and make it viral,” he added.
Mehta told that a few days ago some girls from a reputed educational institute of Ranchi had come to him with a complaint about making deep fake videos. The girls were very scared and were not able to tell anything to the police due to hesitation, he added.
The SP assured him and asked him to tell everything. “Most of these girls were minor girls between 16-18 years of age. Minor girls told that a young man named Vivek made a deep fake video of their photo. Then he added nude video clips and started uploading them on Instagram. When the girls refused, he started trying to blackmail them. After this complaint, the police became active with the cyber team to arrest the accused,” he added.
