The regional transport office of Dehradun acted against 42 school vehicles for neglecting rules while transporting school students. The campaign was conducted in Chakrata Road, Sahastradhara Road, Raipur Road, GMS Road, ISBT- Haridwar bypass, Rispana area and Defence Colony, said the regional transport office (enforcement) Shailesh Tiwari. He said the enforcement teams in these areas acted against 42 school vehicles by imposing penalties under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act . He said that the teams found 11 vehicle operators without valid permits and six each did not have first aid box and were without uniform. Besides this, five operators each were not in possession of a driving license and valid fitness permit for their respective vehicle. Also, four drivers had not installed iron grills on their windows while two did not have fire extinguishers which are the serious violations that can severely affect a child's safety, said Tiwari. He said that departmental teams also imposed penalties on two private vans that had no valid permit to carry school children in the district. The RTO said that the department has been receiving complaints against students carrying vehicles violating the rules that can potentially risk the safety of young students. He said that taking cognisance of such complaints, teams have been conducting regular campaigns against the vehicles carrying students to ensure their safe commuting on weekdays. He said that teams are focussing on all necessary parameters to ensure students’ safety. The department is also in touch with various school administration and vehicle owners to ensure they have all necessary documents and follow rules for children’s safety, added Tiwari.
