The State Election Commission, Chhattisgarh, on Monday released the schedule for by-elections to urban bodies. The model code of conduct has been made effective with immediate effect in the areas going to the polls.
State Election Commissioner Thakur Ram Singh said the election of councillors will be held in nine wards of nine urban bodies in eight districts.
These include Municipal Council Champa District-Janjgir-Champa, Nagar Panchayat Khongapani District-Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Nagar Panchayat Kharora District-Raipur, Nagar Panchayat Tumgaon District-Mahasamund, Municipal Corporation Durg and Municipal Council Ahiwara District-Durg, Nagar Panchayat Bemetara District-Bemetara, Nagar Panchayat Ambagarh Chowki District-Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki and Municipal Council Kondagaon District-Kondagaon.
The District Election Officer will issue the notification. They will make arrangements for reservation of seats on June 2.
Singh said the Returning Officer will receive nomination papers till June 9. They will be scrutinized on June 10. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 12.
The Returning Officer will publish the final list of candidates and allocate the election symbols. The polling will be held if necessary on June 27. The counting of votes will take place on June 30.
