Students of LBSM College visit NML under skill development Programme

CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur organized a visit to the laboratory on 25th May 2023. This program was organized for college students and teachers under the CSIR-Integrated Skill Initiative project. The main objective of the program was to establish connections with College students and teachers and to make learning science interesting. 

54 students from Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial College, Jamshedpur visited CSIR-NML. They were accompanied by 4 teachers- Dr. Arbind Prasad Pandit, Dr. Animesh Kumar Bakshi, Dr. Puja Kumari Dutta, and Dr. Lushi Rani Mishra of the same college. 

The aim of organizing this visit was to exchange information and encourage the participation of students in developing innovative scientific concepts.  

Dr. P.N. Mishra, Senior Principal Scientist and Group leader, KRIT Division, delivered the welcome address. He briefly introduced CSIR-NML as one of the leading research organizations in India with five core R&D divisions and three R&D support divisions having state-of-the-art research facilities.  He also motivated students to pursue a science stream and join hands with CSIR Laboratory.

Dr. Animesh Jana, Senior Scientist and Project Leader of the CSIR- Integrated Skill Initiative project talked about different kinds of Skill initiative programs for college students. He also talked about the research and development activities of CSIR-NML.  

Dr. Arvind Prasad Pandit, Head, Chemistry department from Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial College expressed his gratitude to CSIR-NML and encouraged students to indulge their minds in science and technology.

The day-long program included a visit to Urban Ore Recycling Center, Engineering workshops, 3D printing, Women Technology Park Project area, NML museum, and library. 

Dr. Manis Kumar Jha, Chief Scientist, MER Division, and Dr. Jhumki Hait, Senior Principal Scientist, MER Division, CSIR-NML introduced the Urban Ore Recycling Centre of NML. Dr. Jha demonstrated the e-waste recycling canter to students and teachers and talked about the importance of e-waste recycling for upcoming research and the ecosystem.

Further, Students and teachers also participated in the lecture delivered by  Uday Bhaskar Rao, Principal Scientist and Head, Engineering Division on “Process Energy Auditing for Industrial Scale Plant- A Brief Introduction”.
