Villagers disappointed over slow pace of bailey bridge reconstruction

The people of villages near the India-China border in Joshimath expressed their disappointment over the slow progress of the reconstruction work of the bailey bridge that collapsed on April 16. The movement of villagers living near the border is being severely affected due to the failure of the authorities to reconstruct the bridge near Malari on the border. According to the locals, they have to face lots of difficulties going to other villages on a daily basis.

They said that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) had made temporary arrangements to carry out movement over the river but it became ineffective after a considerable rise in the water level of the river. This once again prohibited the movement of villagers through the river, as per the locals. It is pertinent to mention here that the bailey Bridge built at the Burans checkpost connecting Niti Valley on the Joshimath-Malari Highway collapsed on April 16 this year after which many villages lost road connectivity in Niti Valley.
