Whereabouts of tiger uncertain?

Friday, 31 March 2023 | M F AHMAD | DALTONGANJ

The whereabouts of the tiger in the tiger reserve Palamu are uncertain. It has not been sighted or camera trapped in the last 50 or 60 hours or so.

Kumar Ashutosh chief conservator of forest and field director of the tiger reserve Palamu too conceded there is no sighting of it either by eyes or by camera traps in the last two days and above.

He said there is no kill of it nor any pug mark. Pug marks can be found but the discovery of kill is when the stench of the kill spreads in the jungles he said.

Where could it have gone after all? There is none to answer it. The last time that this tiger was sighted was when it was climbing up a hillock. The Pioneer here is withholding the name of the hillock for the safety of the big cat.

There are two routes on climbing down. One for the tiger reserve Palamu. The other for the forests of Latehar. The hillock is on the border of Palamu tiger reserve and Latehar.

It's a guess that the tiger has gone to the jungles of Latehar forest division. No one has found its presence there.

This tiger came from Chhatisgarh on March 17. It had so far attacked 3 people, two of them males.

The biggest consolation is that all three people attacked by the tiger are alive and recovering.
