Upendra Singh Rawat, a BJP Member of Parliament representing Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, has stirred controversy by withdrawing his candidature from the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the wake of an alleged obscene video scandal.
Initially listed among the BJP’s contenders for the forthcoming polls, Rawat found himself embroiled in a scandal following the emergence of a video purportedly showing him in a compromising position with a foreign woman.
Despite vehemently refuting the video’s authenticity, Rawat opted to step down from the electoral race, acknowledging the need to address the swirling controversy surrounding him.
In response to the scandal, Rawat promptly filed a First Information Report (FIR) with local law enforcement, alleging that the video had been doctored and maliciously circulated to tarnish his reputation.
Taking to his social media platform, Rawat directly addressed the issue on Monday, stating, “An edited video of mine is being made viral which is generated by DeepFake AI technology, for which I have lodged an FIR. In this regard, I have requested the Honorable National President to get it investigated. I will not contest any election in public life until I am proven innocent.”
This development unfolds shortly after the BJP’s announcement on February 2 of its initial roster of 195 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, including 34 incumbent Ministers.
