Chandrasekhar woes increase

Monday, 15 April 2024 | Kumar Chellappan | KOCHI

As the election day approaches fast, two interesting facts stand out in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency against the BJP candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The union minister of State for IT and skill development is blamed for destroying the family of TPG Nambiar, the soft spoken industrialist from Kerala who had made the BPL brand name a household entity in the country.

Nambiar is the father-in-law of Rajeev Chandrasekhar and the latter had ousted Nambiar and his son Ajit from the company, one of the largest conglomerates manufacturing fast moving consumer goods. How a person born into an ordinary middle class family became a multi billionaire in a short span of time gives life to the quote by Balzac that behind every fortune there is a major crime.

The story being spread by Congress activists speak how the union minister of State through shrewd maneuvers ousted his father -in-law and brother-in-law from BPL and usurped their properties. The Nambiar family has totally withdrawn from their enterprises and leading a peaceful life in Bangalore.

Though Ajith is married to the daughter of M K Narayanan, former IB chief who went on to become the National Security Advisor of India, the latter failed to take note of the avalanche in the form of Rajeev Chandrasekhar which struck the TPG clan.

Interestingly, Rajeev bought over the TV news channel Asianet News from its founder Rajji Menon through the former’s holding company Jupiter Media. This channel is the unofficial TV channel of the CPI(M) and is in the forefront in attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and the BJP. Though there were complaints from BJP’s State leadership against the channel for spreading falsehood and distorting news, Rajeev Chandrasekhar has not interfered in the functioning of the channel.

Avani Bansal, a lawyer from Madhya Pradesh who is also a Congress leader, has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India against Rajeev Chandrasekhar whom she alleges that he gave wrong information about his taxable income in the affidavit. The ECI has ordered the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to thoroughly examine the affidavits suffered by the BJP leader.

Interestingly, a BJP leader in Kerala, who does not see eye to eye with Chandrasekhar is the one reportedly behind the complaint to the ECI.
