Speculation ran high over Tollywood superstar and two-time Trinamool Congress from Ghatal constituency Dipak Adhikari alias Deb’s quitting his party ahead of the general elections. Ghatal, formerly Pankhkura was once represented by CPI’s Gurudas Dasgupta.
Though the TMC MP refused to comment on whether he would join the BJP, Deb the most expensive Bangla cine star with international acclaim on Wednesday made a mysterious post stating: “a few more hours.” He would not deliberate much on the content.
Though Deb maintained a studied silence another popular Bengali actor and BJP leader Rudranil Ghosh confirmed that Deb was “not in the kind of mental frame so as to continue in the TMC and I have been informed that he has recently met a Chief Minister of a BJP-ruled State.”
The way “the breach between the old and the young is getting wider with TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee keeping off important party programmes including the dharna led by his aunt and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee it is getting clearer that the party is losing its stranglehold among the people and in that backdrop no one will like to continue in the TMC … Deb too is not willing to continue which he made clear by resigning from three important posts in his constituency,” Ghosh said.
A few days ago Deb had submitted his resignation from three government committees. In three letters written to the District Magistrate he resigned as the vice chairman of Birsingha Development Authority’, ‘chairman of Rogi Kalyan Samity — Ghatal SD Hospital’ and president of ‘Ghatal Rabindra Satabarshiki Maha Vidyalaya’.
