An owner of properties worth rupees crores has been arrested for his alleged involvement in cybercrime at Giridih on Sunday evening.

Giridih district Superintendent of Police, Deepak Kumar Sharma, had a tip off that a 24-year-old local youth was involved in cheating and fraudulent activities by way of cybercrime near Gapai village under muffasil police station areas of the district.

Consequently, a police team was constituted and pressed across the suspected location. The Cyber DSP, Abid Khan, led the police team. Cyber PS in-charge, Ajay Kumar, and SI, Gautam Kumar, are among other members of the police team.

The perpetrator has been identified as one, Sonu Verma, son of Chetlal Verma, a resident of Gapai village under the same PS areas of the district.

With at least 3-4 four named FIRs against him, the culprit, Sonu Verma, has an old criminal record in Giridih and other places. He was also jailed for another cyber related case at Worli Mumbai. Besides, another cyber criminal, Mahendra Mandal, accused in Giridih Cyber PS Case No – 28/2023, had also termed Verma as one of his close associates in his confessional statement to the police. Mandal has been languishing in Giridih central jail for the past few months.

“During investigation, it came to our knowledge that the perpetrator had owned properties worth rupees crores. Apart from plots of land worth more than rupees 2 crores at Bengabad in Giridih, he has owned a luxury car, a 16 - wheeler truck, a well furnished flat in Hazaribagh district,  motorcycle, scooty and other valuables. These are only the known properties, portions of which he had owned in the name of his relatives and family”, SP, Deepak Kumar Sharma, said adding the Giridih police would also appeal to the other concerned central and state agencies to probe into the properties acquired by the perpetrator or his family.

Interestingly, the perpetrator tried to escape the police action with the undue influence of a few renowned persons, but the Giridih police appeared reluctant in their step against the cybercriminals.
