Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) will organize three-day state level Agrotech Kisan Mela from March 2-4 to apprise the farmers and agro-entrepreneurs with latest technologies of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, forestry, biotechnology, dairy, fishery, bee keeping, farm mechanization, food processing & value addition, village and cottage industries. Central theme of the event is ‘Improving nutrition, income and employment through agricultural innovations.’
Addressing media persons on Friday, BAU Vice Chancellor Dr Sunil Chandra Dubey said that 130 stalls have been put up where different colleges, departments, faculties, units, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Zonal Research Stations of BAU, ICAR Institutes located in the state, government departments, banks, dealers of seeds, fertilizers, farm implements, NGOs and other organizations would display their technologies, products and services.
Union Minister of Agriculture & farmers’ Welfare Arjun Munda will inaugurate the event on March 2 at 2.00 PM while Governor CP Radhakrishnan will be the chief guest of the valedictory function on March 4 afternoon. Dr Himanshu Pathak, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research & Education and Director General of ICAR will also attend the inaugural ceremony.
A Horticulture show comprising fruits, vegetables, flowers, flower arrangements, spices, decorative, medicinal, aromatic plants and animal-bird show consisting of cattle, buffalo, pig, sheep, goat, poultry, duck etc will be part of the exhibition. Display and sale of seeds, planting material, fertilizers, farm implements and value added processed agro products, free testing of soil and water samples, visit of experimental areas and screening of video films on modern farm technologies are other features of the event.
BAU Director of Extension Education Dr Jagarnath Oraon and Deans Dr MS Malik, Dr DK Shahi, Dr Sushil Prasad and Dr MK Gupta were also present on the occasion.
