Aam Aadmi Party members will gather at Jantar Mantar and stage a fast on April 7 to protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Announcing this, Delhi Minister and State unit convenor of the AAP, Gopal Rai on Wednesday, gave a call for a nationwide fast against the arrest of the party national convener. “If you are against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister, you can fast against it on April 7. You can hold the collective fast anywhere — at home, in your city, anywhere,” he said.
Rai said that the top leadership of the party was arrested with an “aim to finish AAP.” “As the clock strikes 11 am on April 7th, Delhi’s political landscape will witness a united front as ministers, MLAs, MPs, councilors, officials, and workers gather at Jantar Mantar to observe the collective fast, sending a powerful message of solidarity and defiance against authoritarianism.. This will be an open event and student organisations, farmer bodies, traders can come and participate in it,” he said.
Rai clarified that this is not a AAP’s personal program, but a program for all patriotic people who love the country. “ You may be associated with any political party or organization, but if you believe that the BJP and Modi government are engaging in tyranny, spreading terror in the country, committing injustices, and you want to raise your voice against it, then you should definitely participate in this collective fasting program,” he said.
Talking a dig at the AAP, Delhi BJP Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor has said that the announcement of samhuik upvas (fast) by Aam Aadmi Party to protest against arrest of Arvind Kejriwal is one more drama to be in news. “AAP tried to hold demonstrations against Kejriwal’s arrest but could not gather Party workers anywhere in Delhi, then they held a Rally at Ramlila Maidan but 61 AAP MLAs couldn’t muster 6100 people from Delhi, whatever little crowd came was from.Punjab & Haryana,” he said. Delhi BJP Spokesperson further said that the Samhuik Upvas (fast) too will prove a flop show with hardly any workers coming forward to join it like in the case of demonstration calls.
“The Modi government, for the past two years, has been running a conspiracy to eliminate the AAP and Arvind Kejriwal by orchestrating a fake liquor scam in Delhi. The BJP has used the ED-CBI as its tools to systematically arrest each leader of the AAP based on false allegations. First, Satyendar Jain, then Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh were arrested. Now, the Chief Minister of Delhi, Shri Arvind Kejriwal, has also been arrested,” Rai said.
