Chd DEO, SSP inspect critical polling stations in Dhanas

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Vinay Pratap Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur on Sunday inspected the critical polling stations in Dhanas village and the area of small flats. They reviewed the poll preparedness and checked the facilities at polling stations as per instructions of Election Commission of India. DC said that few polling stations have been identified as critical and vulnerable in UT Chandigarh and senior officers will keep watch on such polling stations.

 

DC informed that live webcasting will be done from all 614 polling stations on the date of poll and micro-observers will also be deployed at selected polling stations to keep watch on suspicious activity in polling stations. Preventive action under CrPC is being carried out by Chandigarh Police against identified criminals and miscreants on mission mode to ensure free and fair elections, he added. He urged the voters of Chandigarh to come out and vote on June 1 at their polling stations.

 

For any information regarding vote and polling station, Chandigarh residents can call on toll free number – 1950. On the occasion, special emphasis was laid by the DC on proper arrangements at polling stations on the day of polling and to ensure that the entire polling process is carried out in an orderly manner. SSP also emphasized on proper security at the critical polling stations with secured campus walls.

 

In a first, 52 polling booths set up in 31 multi-storey societies of Gurugram

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Agarwal on Sunday said that the State Election Commission has set a target to increase voter turnout by more than 75 percent. In this series, 52 polling booths have been set up in 31-storey societies in Global City, Gurugram, for the first time, he added. Agarwal, presiding over a review meeting regarding election arrangements, noted that a common perception in societies like Global City, Gurugram, where well-off individuals residing in multi-storey buildings may show less interest in voting. Thus, for the first time, discussions have been held with the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to set up polling booths within the society so that residents can conveniently vote.

 

He added that a maximum of 35 election booths have been established in 22 societies under Badshahpur assembly constituency, while 16 booths have been set up in eight societies of Gurgaon assembly constituency. Apart from this, one booth has been installed in one society of Sohna assembly segment.

 

107 sr citizens, abv 18-yrs voters registered during registration camp in Z’pur

Zirakpur: Mohali Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer Aashika Jain on Sunday said that to increase the polling percentage in the areas with a low turnout of voters in previous elections of the district, special attention is being paid to increasing the voter turnout in these polling booths during upcoming Lok Sabha elections. She said that the continuous sweep activities are being carried out at booth level by District SVEEP (Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation) team with the support of various educational institutions and NGOs so that voter turnout can be increased to achieve the target of 80 per cent in the Lok Sabha elections-2024.

 

On Sunday, a voter registration and awareness camp was organized at Zirakpur' by District SVEEP nodal officer Prof Gurbakshish Singh Antal and Election Tehsildar Sanjay Kumar with the support of Social Life Help and Care Foundation. During the camp, information regarding various mobile apps related to elections — Voter Helpline app, Saksham app for PwD Voters, cVigil app — was shared for proactive participation of voters to report Model Code of Conduct violation. Foundation chairman Dr Karan Kamra said that 107 new votes or voter address change forms were received during the camp.

 

Punjab skies transforming under PM Modi: Shergill

Adampur (Jalandhar): BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill, on reaching Adampur airport after he flew to Adampur on the inaugural flight from Delhi NCR Hindon to Adampur on Sunday, said that Punjab skies are transforming under the steward leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shergill said that with the start of flights from Delhi NCR Hindon to Adampur, “today is a historic day as well as a matter of immense happiness for the residents of Punjab, especially Doaba – Jalandhar and areas bordering Himachal Pradesh and Punjab”. Underlining that it was a long-standing demand from the Centre for the start of this flight, Shergill said that the start of this flight will not just facilitate Adampur-Delhi, but will also lead to connectivity between Adampur to Nanded Sahib, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Jaipur.

 

“The development assumes a lot of significance, as it would be extremely helpful for the businessmen, tourism sector, and devotees, who want to visit religious places to pay their obeisance,” he said.

 

Punjab CEO visits CPCstresses media’s pivotal role in ensuring free-fair polls

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C on Sunday visited Chandigarh Press Club in conjunction with the annual election of office bearers of Chandigarh Press Club. During his visit, he lauded the Club for conducting a thorough democratic process for the election of its office bearers. Sibin C emphasized the pivotal role of the press in ensuring transparent, free, and fair elections. He called upon the members of the press to act as the eyes and ears of the Election Commission, thus ensuring the comprehensive implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) across Punjab. Additionally, he urged the press to assist in increasing awareness among the citizens about ‘C-Vigil’ application, for reporting any MCC violation.
