Sunday, 31 March 2024 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

In a setback for the Congress in Odisha ahead of the 2024 elections, senior party leader Chiranjib Biswal resigned from the grand old party on Saturday.

The former two-time MLA tendered his resignation letter to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak.

He is likely to join the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

Chiranjib Biswal, the elder son of former Deputy Chief Minister late Basant Kumar Biswal, was first elected to the Legislative Assembly on a Congress ticket from Tirtol in the 2004 elections. He won the Assembly elections in 2014 from Jagatsinghpur.

He was a vice-president of Odisha Congress and also served as a member of the All India Congress Committee.
