A girl student was found hanging in the room of a hostel of the Central University of Odisha (CUO) at Sunabeda in Koraput district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Sandhyarani Das, a first-year student of the Mathematics Department and a native of Kendrapada district.
According to reports, Sandhyarani took her dinner with her classmates at the hostel on Friday night and went to her room at around 1 am. As she was to attend a university sports event on the day, her classmates called her on her mobile number. However, there was no response.
Then, her friends went to her room and found it was closed from inside. After repeated knocks when no response came, the students informed the hostel Superintendent and the CUO authorities.
The university authorities informed police. Cops after reaching the hostel, broke open the door and found the Sandhyarani hanging from a ceiling fan in the room.
Taking immediate action, the police closed the main entrance of the university and did not allow the students to go out and come into the premises. The police are conducting a probe into the incident.
