Lifestyle disorders have emerged as a significant health concern globally, stemming from daily habits and choices such as diet, physical activity, and sleep patterns.
Dr Malhotra emphasized the critical role of adopting healthier habits to prevent and manage conditions like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, which are often linked to unhealthy lifestyles. Drawing attention to the rising prevalence of no communicable diseases (NCDs), he highlighted the urgent need for prevention and awareness efforts to combat what could potentially become a pandemic of chronic diseases.
He underscored the interplay between genetic predisposition ("nature") and environmental factors ("nurture") in influencing individual susceptibility to lifestyle disorders, stressing the importance of addressing modifiable risk factors such as physical inactivity, diet, and smoking.
Furthermore, Dr. Malhotra provided valuable insights into the practical aspects of lifestyle modification, offering guidance on nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and social connectivity. He presented a compelling case study illustrating the application of lifestyle medicine principles in addressing weight management and overall health improvement.
