Floral beauty attracts throngs to Vasantotsav

Sunday, 03 March 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Various types of plants including medicinal plants and hanging plants along with blooms are attracting people to the three-day Vasantotsav-2024 inaugurated at Raj Bhawan on Friday. The visitors are also purchasing plants and flowers in considerable quantities from stalls set up at the venue. However, some of the plant sellers opined that rather than purchasing plants for their beneficial properties, people are selecting them based on their aesthetic appeal and superficial qualities.

Plant seller Ratan Kumar who has set up a stall at the event said that the sale of plants and flowers have been consistently impressive. However, despite offering 50 different types of medicinal plants he observed that visitors tend to prioritise plants based on their visual attractiveness rather than their practical benefits. As of the second day of the festival, he had already sold about 500 plants and anticipates even more sales on the final day.

Another plant seller Viren Kumar said that rather than purchasing plants from the market, individuals tend to wait for Vasantotsav to buy them in bulk. He observed that the sale of plants during this festival is as successful as in past years, attributing it to the affordability and quality of the plants available.

“Flowers for home decoration and hanging plants are particularly popular during the festival. People prefer buying plants during the festival rather than from the market due to their affordability and the belief that a wide variety of plants from different districts will be available,” another plant seller Harish Negi said.
