Haryana announces reward “up to Rs 1L” to those providing info to prevent female foeticide

To increase the state’s sex ratio, the Haryana Government has decided to reward individuals who provide accurate information to prevent female foeticide with up to Rs one lakh from the Health Department. To encourage the people to come forward too share such incidences and ensuring their safety, the government made it clear that the identity of informants will be kept confidential by the department.

 

In this manner, the government and administration are taking appropriate and effective steps towards preventing female foeticide, said the Government spokesperson.

 

Sharing further information in this regard, the spokesperson said that under the PC-PNDT Act of 1994, registered centre operators and doctors involved in pre-conception sex selection and pre-natal sex determination for the first time, he or she would be punished with imprisonment of three years and a fine of Rs 10,000. Subsequently, for repeat offenses, there is a provision of five years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000.

 

Under this Act, for the husband or family member or person who instigates gender selection, the punishment for the first offense is imprisonment of up to three years with a fine of up to Rs 50,000 and for subsequent offenses, imprisonment of up to five years with a fine of up to Rs one lakh.
