Highlight AAP Govt’s Achievements: Punjab CM to party leaders

Thursday, 04 April 2024 | PNS | Chandigarh

Already taking charge of leading the party’s election campaign, Punjab Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) state unit president Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday spearheaded a strategic meeting for the Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency — which he had represented twice. During the meeting, Mann asked the party leaders and workers to seek votes based on the AAP Government’s performance during its two-year tenure in the State. He particularly stressed on the fulfillment of four out of the five main guarantees made by AAP before the 2022 state assembly polls, including zero bills, better health and education facilities.

Notably, Mann is holding a series of meetings with the party nominees, leaders, MLAs, and office bearers of each Lok Sabha segment. A day before, he held meetings for the Faridkot and Patiala constituencies.

Attending the meeting for Sangrur constituency were key party leaders and workers, including party candidate and Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, and MLAs representing assembly segments under the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat.

Cheema, speaking to the media after the meeting, revealed that it was decided to take the achievements of the party’s government directly to the people. He highlighted that AAP has successfully fulfilled four out of the five guarantees made to the public. Moreover, he expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, asserting that they are poised to win all 13 seats in the upcoming elections.

Regarding the BJP’s focus on Punjab, Cheema said that the people in Punjab are also focusing on the saffron party’s actions, particularly criticizing the Central Government for withholding funds due to the State. He reiterated AAP's commitment to combat corruption and emphasized the positive agenda that the party aims to present to the electorate.

Echoing Cheema’s sentiments, Meet Hayer said that there is a positive atmosphere favouring the AAP in the constituency. Hayer emphasized that the unprecedented work done by the Mann Government has garnered widespread appreciation from the people. He highlighted the increase in state revenue during AAP's tenure while affirming that their campaign will be centered on the positive achievements of the government.

Addressing concerns about recent incidents of deaths due to consumption of spurious liquor in Sangrur, Hayer assured that necessary actions are being taken against the culprits. Regarding the arrest of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, he maintained that Delhi Chief Minister was “trapped”, while expressing confidence that the people would respond fittingly to the BJP.

Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, considered an AAP stronghold, will be closely contested in the upcoming elections scheduled for June 1. With Mann leading the charge and the party’s strong track record in the region, AAP aims to maintain its dominance and secure victory once again.

The constituency is currently represented by Khalistan ideologue and SAD (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann, who won the bypolls in 2022 necessitated after Bhagwant Mann gave up Sangrur seat after his election to Vidhan Sabha from Dhuri, which also falls under Sangrur segment. Mann had won Sangrur seat twice — in 2014 and 2019. Winning back the seat will be a battle of prestige for Mann and also the three Cabinet Ministers — Hayer, Cheema, and Aman Arora — who also represent assembly segments under Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency.
