Punjab IAS officer’s husband held on immoral trafficking charges

Ludhiana: The husband of an IAS officer was held on charges of “immoral trafficking” after he was found with a woman at a house in Ludhiana’s Sarabha Nagar during a raid. The police on Sunday said that the man was booked on the charges under Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act. The police raided the house on Friday night after they were tipped off about a suspected sex racket being operated from there. The woman IAS officer has served at several high-ranking posts.

 

‘Free’ books not reaching schools; alleges Selja

Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader and All India Congress Committee’s general secretary Kumari Selja on Sunday alleged that despite the provision for free education up to the Class VIII in state government schools, books have not yet reached. BJP government, which ended the education rule section 134A, has not been able to facilitate admissions in private schools under the Chirag scheme, even as the academic session is starting from April 1, she said. “Last year also, the students had received books five months late. After raising a hue and cry, the government promised to deliver books before the new session this time, but the reality is different. In seven districts of Fatehabad, Panipat, Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonipat, Yamunanagar, and Jhajjar, not a single book for Classes VI to VIII has reached. In Rewari and Mahendragarh districts, books for the third grade have not arrived,” she added.

 

New Team to lead FSAI, Chandigarh Chapter

Chandigarh: Fire and Security Association of India (FSAI) on Sunday constituted a new core working committee of Chandigarh Chapter. Outgoing president Surinder Bahga explained the role of this organization in building a safe India, and installed Jasjyot Singh as new president of Chandigarh Chapter, while Gursimran Kaur has taken over as secretary. FSAI is a non-profit organization established in 2002 representing the fire protection, life safety, security, building auto motion, loss prevention, risk management domains and women safety.

 

Moga Police holds Cycle Rally to reach out to residents

Moga: Under the campaign to make Punjab Drug Free, Moga Police on Sunday held a cycle rally in the city. Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh flagged off the rally, led by SSP Vivek Sheel Soni, and in which people from all walks participated in large numbers. Soni informed that Moga Police was trying its best to root out this social evil from the society. “Any person involved in any kind of drug activity will not be spared at any cost. Battle against drugs can be won with the active support of people only,” he said.

 

Pkl Mayor inaugurates evening OPD at Paras

Panchkula: The city Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal on Sunday inaugurated multi-specialty evening OPD at Paras Health, Panchkula. Among others, Seema Chaudhary ex-Mayor Panchkula and office bearers of Senior Citizen Associations and RWA were also present during the occasion. The hospital has launched evening OPD in internal medicines, gynecology, neurology, general and gastro surgery, nephrology, orthopedics, pediatrics and pulmonology, said Dr Pankaj Mittal Facility Director.
