Inspectors attacked after  being caught ‘together’ in govt accommodation

Monday, 05 August 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

In a dramatic incident in Agra, a woman caught her husband, a police inspector, with another female police inspector inside a government accommodation. The confrontation escalated when the woman’s family members arrived, dragged both inspectors outside and physically assaulted them.

The altercation, captured on video, has since gone viral on social media.

Taking serious cognisance of the incident, senior police officers registered cross-cases and on Sunday and also arrested the inspector’s wife and her family members after the medical report of the female inspector confirmed that her hand was fractured during the assault. Action was also taken against over half a dozen policemen for making video instead of trying to defuse the situation.

According to reports, Rakabganj police station in-charge Shaili Rana has a government residence in the police station premises. She lives alone in it. On Saturday evening at four o'clock, two women and some youths suddenly reached the police station and went straight towards Rana’s residence.

In the video circulated on the internet media, the women open the gate of the inspector’s residence while abusing her. In the video, the women are seen dragging Rana out of the residence in lower and T-shirt along with another man, identified as police Inspector Pawan Kumar Nagar. In the video, one of the youths is heard saying that he had doubts since the marriage and he has grown so old that he doesn't even feel like beating him up. While saying this, he picks up a brick but does not hit him.

Meanwhile, the medical report confirmed that Rana’s hand was fractured in the assault. On the basis of her complaint and medical report, Inspector Pawan Kumar Nagar’s wife Geeta Nagar, brother-in-law Jwala Nagar and sister-in-law Sonia Nagar have been arrested and the nephew and his driver who fled from the spot are being searched.

Commissioner of Police J Ravinder Gaur has said that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands. He said if the inspector’s wife had any complaint against the female inspector, she should have complained as per the rules but assaulting the inspector in her house was wrong.

Gaur also suspended head constable Vishal and Harikesh for making the video and remaining silent during the assault on both the inspectors.

Inspector Sunil Lamba, Inspector Devendra, head constable Rekha, constable Ankit, constable Girish posted in PRV and driver Rajendra have also been suspended. A complaint has also been written for action against a home guard present on the spot and orders have also been given for departmental inquiry against all the above men in uniform for defaming the department.

Sources in the police confirmed that there was a “friendship” between the lady inspector and the male inspector but the relationship took an ugly turn when Rana had some dispute with a clerk of the police station recently. Sources said that some policemen of Rakabganj police station had informed the wife of Inspector Pawan Kumar Nagar that his car was parked outside Shaili Rana’s residence.

Inspector Pawan Kumar Nagar, who was posted in Muzaffarnagar, was recently transferred to Meerut Vigilance, and he is currently on medical leave.

Sources also said that a video had gone viral in which a woman in civilian clothes is seen dancing to a film song and has been described as Inspector Shaili Rana.
