International Yoga Day: Prominent figures participate

Several prominent figures including Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Delhi BJP MPs and Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora took part in programmes organised across the national Capital on Friday on the occasion of tenth International Yoga Day.

Nadda, who participated in an event at Yamuna sports complex, said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made the world recognise the importance of Yoga. "This method of yoga which was limited to our country has been adopted by the whole world today. Today we are celebrating the 10th Yoga Day," he said, appealing to everyone to make the practice of yoga an integral part of their daily routine so that they can live a healthy life.

Practising alongside the Union Minister, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva asked everyone to take a pledge to do yoga and stay healthy. "When yoga was seen being performed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the United Nations, every Indian felt proud and we are proud that today the world is seeing India as a yoga guru," he stated.

Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, North east Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari, South Delhi BJP MP Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, Northwest Delhi BJP MP Yogendra Chandolia, New Delhi BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj also participated in the Yoga Day programs. BJP MP from Chandni Chowk Praveen Khandelwal, participated in the yoga program organised by the Ministry of AYUSH at the historic Red Fort in Delhi, and said, "Yoga is an invaluable gift from India to the world, which has connected people from all walks of life for personal well-being as well as societal harmony."

Delhi Lieutenant Governor and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) chairman VK Saxena performed yoga at Baansera on the bank of Yamuna River. Besides Baansera, the Delhi Development Authority celebrated the yoga day at its 18 sports complexes and golf courses and nine DDA parks which saw participation of around 20,000 people.

These sports facilities include Yamuna Sports Complex, Siri Fort Sports Complex, Saket Sports Complex, Vasant Kunj Sports Complex, Major Dhyan Chand Sports Complex, Chilla Sports Complex, Poorv Delhi Khel Parisar, and Roshanara Club. Chief Secretary Delhi Naresh Kumar, DDA vice chairman Subhasish Panda, senior officers of Delhi government, DDA employees and members of public were also present at Baansera, Delhi's first bamboo theme park spread over an area of 37 acres, the statement by DDA said.

New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in coordination with the Ministry of AYUSH and 6 yoga institutions observed International Day of Yoga at eight prominent locations with around 10,000 participants who performed the common protocol of yoga on the occasion.
