Loyola Alumni triumphs in XLRI's Cricket Tournament

XLRI Jamshedpur organised Fr. Quinn Enright Memorial Cricket Tournament 2024 - Cricket for a Cause, a remarkable event that witnessed Team Loyola Alumni emerging victorious after defeating XL Tigers in the finals. This tournament, held in memory of XLRI's esteemed Founding Director, Fr. Quinn Enright, S.J., was a testament to the institution's commitment to academic excellence and community service.

The event, part of XLRI's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, aimed to raise funds for charity while promoting inclusivity by inviting teams from diverse backgrounds to participate. Six teams competed in the tennis ball cricket tournament held from June 1 to 9. The participating teams included XL Tigers (XLRI Faculty & Staff), Loyola Alumni Association, XL Hunters (XLRI FPM & EFPM Students), GMP Avengers (XLRI PGDM-GM Students), DTDC Warriors, and KFMS (XLRI Support Staff).

In a thrilling finale, XL Tigers faced off against Loyola Alumni Association. XL Tigers opted to bat first, scoring 128 runs for 10 wickets in 15 overs, with Prashant playing a crucial innings of 64 runs. However, Loyola Alumni Association chased down the target on the last ball, clinching victory and securing the winner's trophy.

Principal Fr. Vinod Fernandes of Loyola School Jamshedpur presented the trophies to the winners. Lalit Sejwal, an FPM Scholar from XLRI Jamshedpur, was named Player of the Tournament, while Sanchit Raj from Loyola Alumni Association received the Best Batsman trophy, and Anil Saroj from XLRI Jamshedpur was honored as the Best Bowler.

The tournament featured a format with two pools, each team playing two league matches. Semi-finals and finals determined the ultimate winner. The event emphasized fair play, with professional umpires officiating matches and strict adherence to rules. XLRI expresses gratitude to all participating teams, organizers, and supporters for their contributions to the success of the tournament, showcasing the values of sportsmanship and community engagement.
