In the inaugural ceremony of the 82nd annual conference of the All India Eye Society held in Kolkata, Jharkhand's famous ophthalmologist, Dr. B.P. Kashyap was awarded the honorary degree of FAICO in the field of Vitreo-Retina. The honour was given to him by Swami Nityakamananda, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan. The honorary title is given to selected vitreo-retina surgeons of the country in recognition of their work in the field of retina.

It is noteworthy that in 1984, Dr. B.P. Kashyap started retina treatment for the first time in Jharkhand (then Bihar). At that time, he was the only retina surgeon in the entire Bihar. From 1984 to 2004, he was the only retina surgeon in Jharkhand and Bihar. Today in Jharkhand, all the new technologies, machines, treatment methods, research, training etc are available in the field of retina, the credit for bringing them all to Jharkhand goes only to Dr. BP Kashyap.

Among these, in 2003, the retina of the eyes of premature children was Introducing the world's most modern Constellation Machine for Retina Surgery in 2009, Introducing Intravitreal Injection for Retina Treatment in 2006, the most modern machine for Retina Treatment, and Jharkhand's only Electrophysiology Machine till now in 2018. This includes bringing in Jharkhand's first and ever clinical trial of retina medicines in 2021, opening Jharkhand's first and only nationally recognized retina training facility in 2022, etc.

With Dr. Kashyap being awarded this honorary degree at the national level, the name of Jharkhand has emerged in golden letters on the eye health map of India.
