Resignation of IAS officer Abhishek Singh accepted

Friday, 01 March 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

The resignation of IAS officer Abhishek Singh has been accepted after getting approval from the Central government. It will be considered effective from Thursday (February 29, 2024).

Abhishek Singh was an IAS officer of the 2011 batch. He resigned in October 2023. Sources said that Abhishek Singh is likely to enter the political field after leaving the civil services job. He is continuously active in political and social work in Jaunpur. There are also speculations about Singh contesting the Lok Sabha election from Jaunpur on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.

Singh, who has worked in many films, was under suspension from February 2023 due to a long absence. Abhishek Singh’s wife Durga Shakti Nagpal is also an IAS officer. At present she is posted as the district magistrate of Banda.

Abhishek Singh had gone to Delhi on deputation in 2015. In 2018, his deputation period was extended for two more years, but during that time he went on medical leave. After this, the Delhi government sent Abhishek Singh back to his native cadre UP but he did not join the job in the state for a long time. He did not even give any satisfactory answer to the Appointment department. Later he joined on June 30, 2022.

Abhishek Singh was sent as an observer by the Election Commission of India for the Gujarat assembly elections in 2022. He took charge of observer duty. When his celebrity-style photo in front of a car went viral on social media, the Election Commission removed him from observer duty on November 18, 2022.

After returning from Gujarat, Abhishek Singh again joined his duty in UP. This time the UP government suspended him. After this he applied for voluntary retirement from service (VRS).

In the beginning of February, Abhishek Singh started a free Ayodhya Dham Yatra for the people of Jaunpur. In this journey, five buses will take the devotees to Ayodhya Dham every day and will drop them to Jaunpur in the evening. He had also posted its video message on social media platform X. Abhishek Singh named the buses Jaunpur Nishad Rath.

Sources said that Abhishek Singh made this arrangement for the people of Jaunpur as he was preparing to contest parliamentary election from the district, probably on a BJP ticket. He also named the buses after Nishad as the community has a large presence in Jaunpur and plays a decisive role in the victory of candidates.

Even before this, Abhishek Singh has brought many celebrities to Jaunpur. He has been frequently organising big programmes for the public in Jaunpur, in which large crowds gather.
