Saturday, 02 March 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

In a tragic incident, a speeding truck hit a motorcycle and went crushing two schoolchildren to death and critically injuring their uncle in Ram Sanehi Ghat police station area of Barabanki on Friday morning.

The truck driver fled after the mishap, abandoning the vehicle at the spot.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. He instructed the district administration to provide proper treatment to the injured and wished for their speedy recovery.

Reports said that Neeraj Yadav (34), a resident of Sumerganj in Ram Sanehi Ghat, was going to drop his niece Yogita (8) and Vartika (5), daughters of his elder brother Pankaj Yadav, at Modern Inter College in Bhitaria on a motorcycle. On their way to school, a speeding truck going from Bhitaria towards Barabanki hit Neeraj’s motorcycle from behind near Bani block. Following the collision, all the three – Neeraj, Yogita and Vartika – fell on the road. After the mishap, the truck driver, in order to flee, went crushing all the three, killing both the girls on the spot and critically injuring Neeraj.

The driver later abandoned the truck and escaped.

Neeraj was taken to the community health centre in Ram Sanehi Ghat from where he was referred to the district hospital in view of his critical condition.

The police have seized the vehicle, registered a case and launched a hunt to arrest the driver.

Meanwhile in Shahjahanpur, a 32-year-old woman died, allegedly after being administered an injection by a quack, police said on Friday.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Manoj Awasthi said after Aasma complained of stomach pain on Thursday night, her family took her to a local clinic for treatment.

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s family, when the pain did not subside, a quack administered her an injection following which her condition deteriorated and she died after some time.

Police have registered a case against Avneesh and his aides Priyanka and Ajay under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code, ASP Awasthi said.

The body was sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway, he added.
