Himadri Earns Top Honour from CDP, Joins Global List of Climate-Conscious Leaders

At a time when the world’s supply chains are being held accountable like never before, Kolkata-based Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd has earned a coveted spot on the CDP’s 2024 Supplier Engagement Leaderboard. This global recognition marks the company as one of the most responsible and climate-forward industrial players in the world.

The honour comes with an ‘A’ rating, awarded for Himadri’s high-impact efforts in areas often underreported or overlooked: supplier engagement, Scope 3 emissions, risk governance, and climate strategy. For the company, it isn’t just a win; it’s a declaration of intent.

A year ago, Himadri had entered the CDP’s rigorous global disclosure process for the first time, earning a solid ‘B’ rating on Climate Change and Water Security. Few expected such a dramatic leap in such little time. Even fewer imagined the company’s name among the world’s highest-rated performers in just its second year of reporting.

Inside the Himadri leadership circle, there is a sense of pride, not in awards, but in accountability.
“This isn’t just recognition, it’s a reaffirmation of the path we’ve chosen,” said Anurag Choudhary, Chairman and CEO of Himadri.
“We have always believed that climate leadership goes beyond internal operations. It’s about building an ecosystem where your partners, suppliers, and communities all move toward a more resilient, climate-conscious future.”

At the core of this philosophy lies a shift from compliance to co-creation, from operational metrics to shared outcomes. Himadri’s ESG strategy, especially in supplier engagement and emissions governance, is now being held up as a model by global climate watchdogs.

While most industrial supply chains remain fragmented and opaque, Himadri is doubling down on transparency and traceability, turning its procurement and logistics operations into levers for environmental responsibility.

“We don’t see sustainability as a checkbox,” said one senior ESG advisor from the company.
“It’s a design principle. It shapes how we work, who we work with, and where we’re headed.”

This recognition also highlights the growing role of Indian companies in global climate action, showing that industry transformation can be both homegrown and world-class.

A Company in Motion

Himadri’s work is rooted in the production of speciality chemicals and advanced materials, including key components for lithium-ion batteries, carbon black, coal tar pitch, and more. From defence and construction to paints, plastics, and clean energy, its products power multiple sectors across more than 54 countries.

But it is the company’s commitment to circularity and clean power that stands out. All eight of its manufacturing sites operate on a zero-liquid discharge model, and 100 percent of its electricity needs are met through in-house clean power.

While the world scrambles to define green growth, Himadri is already building it. The company believes sustainability must live not just in products, but in people, partnerships, and purpose.

As climate goals grow more urgent and global scrutiny intensifies, Himadri’s inclusion in CDP’s elite leaderboard sends a strong signal. It reflects not only where the company stands, but where Indian industry can go.

“We are not just building a more sustainable Himadri,” Choudhary said.
“We are shaping a future-ready, climate-conscious industrial network that creates value not just for business, but for society and the planet.”
