A teachers’ orientation program on phonetics of English was organized at DAV school senior wing. In his inaugural speech, principal Ashok Kumar said that we have to assess the students as per norms given by CBSE. It’s very important for the teachers to be aware of the rules of the CBSE as well as the expectations of their parents.
Ashwini Kumar, I/C CCE, spoke on the importance of this program and said that CBSE has started the assessment in speaking and listening for standard 9 and 11 students in which every school has to send the recorded voice of the students. This is where it becomes all the more necessary to prepare the students right from the beginning. Once someone becomes tongue tied it becomes his/her habit and then it is very difficult to change.
KK Singh, the resource person, speaking on the topic explained all 24 consonants and 20 vowels of English language and phonetics transcription, he talked on stress, intonation, weak and strong forms of structural words, letters to be aspirated, accentuation pattern etc. He said that there is a wide difference between the way a word is spelt and the way it is pronounced.
Baldev Pandey while proposing the vote of thanks said that language is a social asset and it is expected from all that they must follow the grammatical rules in its written as well as spoken forms. On this occasion P Tiwari, Jaya Sinha, I/Cs Eucalypta Branch and the teachers of Junior as well as Senior Wing were there.
