A 48-year-old cloth trader was reportedly robbed of his Swift car, cash bag, and mobile phone at gunpoint by three men near Pratap Nagar Metro Station in North Delhi on Saturday night. To add to his woes, the businessman, who had sustained a fracture on his right leg was given Rs 30 by the three men who dropped him near the NSP Metro Station, asking him to take a rickshaw for his home.

Naresh Gambhir, who runs a shop in Pratap Nagar was heading home in Rohini in his white Swift car on Saturday night when he “got down to pee on a road side near the railway colony red light”.

As per the written statement given by Gambhir to the Gulabi Bagh police station, “I closed down my wholesale shop of shawls and was heading home. I had to urgently urinate therefore I stopped my car near the red light. Within a minute or two, when I came back to my car, I saw three men outside the car. In a jiffy, they pushed me inside the car. One of them hit my head on the dashboard and pointed a pistol at my head while the other pointed a pistol at my stomach. They slapped me three to four times and asked me to hand them all my cash and belongings. They drove me to the Netaji Subhash Place metro station where they threatened me that they had orders to kill me. But they pitied me and gave me Rs 30 and asked me to go home with the cash,”

The complainant, in his complaint had mentioned that the accused- all three men were in the age group of 28-34. The accused made away with the Swift car, cash worth Rs  53,000, driving license of Naresh Gambhir among other valuables.

Ironically, the robbery took place 800 meters away from the Gulabi Bagh police station. Despite being robbed at gunpoint, police registered a case under non -heinous section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Gulabi Bagh police station.

A senior police officer said, “We are scanning the CCTV cameras of the area to ascertain the identity of the accused. As per the complaint, the complainant said that he can identify them. We are also suspecting the role of the staff of the shop. Further probe is on”.
