87-year-old woman donates body to medical college

In an appreciable gesture, the body of a 87- years-old woman who died on Friday was donated to Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) for studies and medical research.

Sushma Niyogi, daughter of Narendra Nath Niyogi, and a resident of Defence Colony here, had expressed wish to donate her body to GDMC on death.

On her demise, her nephew Tushar Banerjee contacted the GDMC and handed over her body to the department of anatomy by way of fulfilling her wish.

Lauding the gesture, the principal GDMC Dr Pradip Bharati Gupta said that the students, faculty members and employees of the medical college are appreciative of the noble gesture and would always remain indebted to Sushma Niyogi for donating her body on death.
