Gopal Das, an ascetic on fasting for Ganga,-who had been rushed to AIIMS Rishikesh from the Matri Sadan ashram on Saturday- has returned to the ashram on Tuesday. His condition was stated to be normal. He is still on fasting, claimed those associated with Matri Sadan.
Das, 36, has been on fast for conservation of Ganga at Badrinath since 24 June. He was taken to the hospital a few hours after he announced that he would continue his fast from Matri Sadan to take forward the stir of Swami Sanand who died at AIIMS Rishikesh on October 11.
Meanwhile, police allegedly detained some people who gathered at AIIMS Rishikesh, demanding to be allowed to have a glimpse of Sanand’s body.
Speaking to The Pioneer on Tuesday, Brahmchari Dayanand of Matri Sadan said, “Bhopal Choudhary, Sushil Bahuguna, Sushila Bhandari and Kusum Joshi were arrested by police when they were demonstrating outside AIIMS, demanding to be allowed to have a glimpse of Sanand’s body.
They were later brought to Rishikesh police station where they sat on protest.”
A Matri Sadan insider said that the agitators were demanding permission to be allowed to sprinkle Ganga water on the body of Sanand, the ascetic who ‘sacrificed’ his life for the cause of Ganga.
Meanwhile, the ‘Water Man of India’ Rajendra Singh said that Government should come down heavily on those who are polluting the holy river instead of those who are struggling to help the Ganga maintain its free flow.
