Excise sleuths on Friday seized 60 grams of brown sugar worth about Rs 6 lakh from one Sudhir Mohanty (30) of Jagatpur near the city. Sources said Sudhir had procured the contraband from Jaleswar of Baleswar district and was carrying it for his potential buyers in Cuttack.
“Our mobile patrol party was following him from Chandikhol and apprehended him at Madhupatna Square hedre in the afternoon and seized the stuff from his possession,†said an excise official, adding that the drug peddler was arrested under several Sections of the NDPS Act.
Excise staffs had last month also seized about 200 grams of brown sugar and arrested three persons from Jaleswar in this connection.
