Saturday, 13 October 2018 | PNS | SAMBALPUR

The Fishfed on Friday opened its unit here named as ‘Hirakud Fresh’ to provide fish from Hirakud reservoir and Chilika to the consumers.

“The aim is to save consumers from unhygienic food as it has emerged as a major threat now- a- days,” said Fishfed Odisha chairman T Prasad Rao Dora.

Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) chairman Kishore Mohanty accompanied by MLA of Sambalpur Dr Raseswari Panigrahi, SDA Chairman Bijay Kumar Mohanty, senior officials of Fishery and Fishfed were present.

It is a fact that the fish markets in Sambalpur town are in totally unhygienic conditions. Hence, the new outlet is sure to attract consumers. On the very first day, fresh fish from Hirakud and Hilsa, prawn and other varieties from Chilika were available for the consumers and there was a good market demand.

“Very soon, Fishfed will open outlets in Burla, Bargarh and Jharsuguda,” informed Deputy Director (Fisheries) Sambalpur Pabitra Kumar Behera.

Behera also informed about upgrading the present fishery pond of Sambalpur situated in the heart of the town spreading across a sprawling area of 60 acres to a fish production centre cum tourist spot with all modern amenities including boating, fishing and evening and morning walk facilities.
