A movie ‘Icchapuran’ was screened on Thursday at Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum. The movie was screened under the regular children film screenings ‘Ullas’.

Directed by one of the greatest auteur of World Cinema Mrinal Sen and based on a story by Rabindranath Tagore, Ichhapuran uses humour to deliver a poignant lesson that each one of us has a place in the world no one else can ever fulfill.

It surrounds the life of a young boy Sushil. Naughty Sushil is disinterested in studies and enjoys playing pranks on everyone. Though at the surface his father Subal tries to correct him, inside he likes the child’s free spiritedness and longs to be young like him.

Scolded by everyone, Sushil on the other hand, wishes to be like his father so he can always get his way. One night, their wishes are fulfilled as their bodies get swapped. After much comical confusion in the village, the two finally appreciate the importance of their individual positions in life and desire to get back to their original self.

One of the most creative, experimental and original auteur of Indian cinema, Mrinal Sen began his career in 1955. But it wasn’t until 1969, that he acquired the acclaim he deserved with the landmark film ‘Bhuvan Shome’ that heralded the New Indian Cinema wave.

Winner of almost every important award in India and abroad, his other important films include ‘Ek Din Pratidin’, ‘Akaler Sandhane’ and ‘Khandhar’. He has also made many short and documentary films.
